Here at DVC (Digital Vintage Classics), we are still hanging on to a box of old cassettes and CDs. Cassette tapes were the most popular audio format of the 1980s. Some even had a “Walkman”. So you could take your music with you! Now there is a flashback! The CD (compact disc) replaced the cassettes and had a better-quality sound
I can’t remember the last time I have seen what is in that dusty old box, but I have found some of those same titles in resale stores around town. They are more popular than you think. I gave into temptation and purchased a few while I am repairing these old players/recorders.
We got most of them from those old Columbia House memberships. Remember those? It is just so hard to throw them all away. The plan is that someday we will either do something with them or get them in digital format.
While most of us get our music from streaming on our phones and other devices, do you ever miss the sounds your old jams used to have? Have you thought about all the old music you used to play? Let’s face it you just can’t hear most of that on the radio today.
Have you considered preserving those songs and the memories that went with them? Maybe you were from an era that recorded your own “mixed tape“? I know I was! I remember waiting for my favorite music to come on the radio (for me it was Motown) and being ready to hit record!
Once recorded onto my carefully crafted mixed tape (or so I thought) I played it until I made my parents crazy. Back then, we had to rewind to the beginning or we had to stop and start until we got to the beginning of the song we wanted to hear.
Maybe you’re like us and still clinging to that box of cassettes, unsure how you would even play them, but still not ready to part from them just yet. Of course, you can purchase a cassette deck from eBay, at a garage sale, or just off the internet. Unfortunately, we have heard a surprising amount of stories of such a purchase only to find the unit was unusable or not as described.
If you still have an old cassette player or a stackable component system with a dual cassette deck that needs some work, We can service it. Cassette Players / Recorders are known for eating tapes, being unable to rewind, fast forward, or other infuriating issues. These issues can often be solved while other repairs require belts, cleaning, and lubrication.
In today’s world, fewer and fewer people appreciate the value of the systems and units we grew up with. They believe that it is too costly or that technology is too old to bother with. We believe this depends on you and what those memories mean to you!
